Remember when..
Monday, October 12, 2009

A sudden wave of nostalgia just hit me, it hit me so hard I suddenly felt a momentary loss, like something was ripped away from me, and then it was gone. It reminded me squarely, squarely of Sec 3/3. It's really sad that I'll never be able to go back to that time and place again.

What exactly hit me was this:

I was in the class 4/3, a sunny afternoon (I'm guessing it's about 12-1 pm). Commonwealth's sec 4/3 class in 2005 was situated at the lone block in the old Jurong East St 24 campus. We were on the third level and there were trees tall enough outside the windows to provide some shade from the glaring sunlight. They were rustling in the breeze. Oh boy was the breeze good, it was windy, cooling and comfortable even though the day was hot and sunny.

I was on the left side of the class. Looking out of the windows to the left were the two trees, there was the road that sloped upwards, the grey bricks that made the road. The white carpark lot markings, the cars parked there, the kerb - all too memorable to forget.

Looking to the right across the grey class tables and the blackboard (and the notice board) at the left corner of my eye, were the shiny brown anodized aluminum windows, and outside of it, is the walkway and the bridge that links the blocks together. It was really glaring outside there (can you feel the heat already?) but this only accentuates the bright red colours of the railings, those thick metal ones. (No idea what metal it's made of, I'm no civil engineer). Behind the bridge, there's more greenery from trees in that direction, and then a green field and behind it the HDB flat. Slightly to the left, across the bridge is the other block, where the other classes were situated. Class 3/3 (or was it 3/4?) is there, the walls slightly darker in hue because less light entered that way.

It's amazing how just one momentary flashback could evoke such vivid memories of the past, not to mention it's been about 4 years already. I can't even begin to describe fully what's really in that flashback, but remembering it just takes me back. It makes me nostalgic, back to the times when we actually donned on that blue uniform looking all young and immature and ready to go. Going back home at 1 pm or 2 pm, those must have been really good days. Wandering around Westmall during lunch, that's merely half the day gone for us nowadays.

Come to think of it, there happen to be songs which I dearly remember being belonging to that time period. S.H.E.'s Superstar album being one of them that defined my Sec 2 and Sec 3 life. I'm sure everyone else has songs that they would associate with a period of their lives. How beautiful, how nostalgic. I'd go back and relieve those sunny Sec 3 and 4 days again if I could.
