I've been thinking. And yes, it is certainly not right to put someone up so high on the pedestal that she takes the place of God. That is a sin, for that space is reserved for God and God alone.
Yet at the same time, the idea of a significant other is in simple respect, a God-given institution. It is sacred and thus very central to our lives.
Genesis 2:24 says "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."
