Patience is a rare commodity these days. The world rushes by without without a wink of sleep. Deadlines and projects just loom by, and we want to get things done quickly, get reputation, get accomplishments, reach our goals (noble or otherwise), earn money, get a girlfriend/boyfriend, get a place to live in, get a car, get money, have children, have status, have recognition.
It seems like we're rushing to grow old.
I certainly don't doubt that I want those things that I have mentioned above. Sometimes I think of wanting a job as soon as possible. Sometimes I think of wanting love. Sometimes I think of wanting the recognition and status I feel like I can accomplish. Sometimes I think of wanting the money so I can get and do the things I want. But Galatians 5:22-23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Longsuffering, or patience, is an attribute by which we should live by. Because if we "live in the Spirit", we must "also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5:25) Is it tough to wait for God's perfect timing? Yes. But faith must be tried before we are strengthened in the Lord (1 Peter 1:6-7).
We wait, for God's perfect time. Age can wait while our faith is being refined. || posted by Kuan Hui
