When it comes to worshipping God, how do we discern spirituality from emotion? How do we determine what is more acceptable and what is not? How do we reconcile differences in practices? What determines something is erred on the safe side (or not)? Would God approve of that action? What would Jesus do?
Sometimes the questions about differences and practices can be so many and so numerous. Amidst changing times, cultures, customs, habits, perceptions, it becomes so difficult to identify the importance of keeping the Word. What should be kept and upheld to the book, what can be relaxed (in the spirit of the Word, the intention)? Maybe in the end, it is more prudent to just take them in, guided by God. What Matthew Henry, what J.C. Ryle, of the past did, was to accept differing opinions on the subject matter, and cross-examine with the Word to see if that interpretation of the subject matter contradicts or violates the Word. And at the same time they still kept an open and humble mind, despite being uncomfortable with certain different opinions. Ah but it is so tough sometimes to discern what is okay, and what isn't.
Be a blessing to others? Not with this judgmental, superior attitude of mine. Behaving like this is no different from behaving like the Pharisees. || posted by Kuan Hui
