I've always had a hunch that I liked teaching. There is always a magical moment when the leaner understands something that has been taught. That point in time releases a certain joy in me that is rarely matched. I recount the times when I taught my pastor's children O Level topics. Recalling the concepts and trying to explain in a simplified manner, at the same time without diluting the meaning of what is conveyed, in a succinct manner is an art that requires a mastery of not only the topic at hand, but also an understanding of the current capacity and ability of the learner, and also an innate understanding of the way words and forms are used as one teaches. Simply put, it requires understanding of the subject matter, the learner, and the self. And I would say that I am a far way off in mastering any of the three aspects of teaching, which sometimes can be a discouragement because of the fear that the learner isn't being taught well enough.

As the evenings in office goes, work has become much more manageable (although it is still boring and I'm rather disinterested in it) as I am in currently in a lull period. Consequently, I do get to work at a slightly slower pace, and more importantly, to have some spare time to chat with my colleagues. The past two days have been wonderful as I get to speak to Timothy, and sharing with him the many burning questions he has over the gospel has gave me a tiny bit of confidence to behave more boldly in evangelising others, and more pertinently to want to study the Bible even more thoroughly. Timothy is a new-believer, knowing the Lord only recently slightly more than a month ago. Since then he has been quite conscientious in reading the Bible and wanting to know more, which is a great comfort. I definitely pray that his momentum will continue on. But for myself, speaking so much on the Bible and helping to answer some of the questions he has made me realise, what if I am cut out for teaching and speaking? What if I could evangelise as a teacher? Exciting! I am definitely feeling a growing desire to move in this direction. Hopefully in the coming weeks and months I would be able to clearly express and use my passions for the extension of God's kingdom!
