Today I am witness to true love. I am witness to a 76-year old lady who tirelessly took care of her bedridden husband, and even though the marriage was only a short span of 8 years, the depth of devotion she had to her husband was unmistakable. It wasn't the passions of love, nor the sweet utterances of honeyed words and professions of intent that displayed that love. Rather, it was the devotion through the ugly periods, through waking up every night to care for an aged man, ensuring that his needs are met even through weariness and fatigue. The endurance of commitment to another wonderfully and fearfully made individual.
I am awed and humbled at how God gave us the ability to love like that, and I shudder at the hardships it brings. Truly, the passions of love merely scratch the surface of the iceberg.
Today I understood more, even if its only a minuscule amount, about the essence of love. And as I looked upon the peaceful face of the man that rested there, I know he is now with the everlasting One who will love him with a depthless love.
One day we shall meet again, and then we will chat and sing praises unto the Lord. || posted by Kuan Hui
