One year ago as I was designing my church's year planner for 2016, I had to select two verses to place into each week of the planner. Back then, I remembered sharing with my pastor a certain discomfort in putting too many verses that spoke about God's love into the planner, thinking that a disciplined life in God was absolutely necessary, and that verses that warn and chastise were more practical and useful in general purpose in daily life. He told me that in the planner, as with in our lives, there should always be a balance between verses that instruct, and verses that show of God's love and tenderness.
One year on, as I design the church planner for 2017, as I look back on my thinking last year, I'm understanding much better what it means to hold love and justice in God's perfect balance. This past year of BSF has showed to me that the fundamental driving force of God's actions is love, without compromising His justice. And today as I select the verses for next year's planner, I pray that God will give me that wisdom to choose verses which reflect this beautiful balance, just as he has given me the wisdom in BSF to share this same thing over these 9 months.
